First edition, octavo, printed in red and black, title page printed within an upside down woodcut compartment, first line of title and half of another line crossed out in ink in an early hand, early ownership inscription to fore-margin of title; first signature detached; narrow sections of blank bottom margins of several leaves in first signature trimmed away; toning to contents; bound in full contemporary French blind-tooled sheep with losses to spine, in need of rebacking, 5 3/8 x 3 1/2 in.

Sterck was born in Maastricht, where he was a Catholic priest and author. He is known for this compilation of religious texts and prayers whose title translates to Garden of the Soul, in addition to an adaptation of the English morality Everyman play published in 1536 and entitled Homulus.
